Lesson 7 (August 16)
“You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you” (Psalm 86:5, NIV).
Before class, place 490 coins or beans into a jar or container. Write the Power Text on the outside of the container. Have a small gift for the student who gets the closest to the actual number of items in the jar. Explain to the students that there is a prize to be awarded to the student who guesses correctly. Ask the students to guess how many there are in the jar. As each student writes his guess on the white board or piece of paper, have the class recite the Power Text. When everyone has recorded a guess, reveal the number or 490. Reward the winner and ask, “What do you think this number has to do with our lesson today?” If they don’t know, tell them to listen closely to the lesson to discover the answer!
Lesson 8 (August 23)
“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3, NIV).
Before class, copy a picture for each student. Write the memory verse on the back of the picture. Cut the picture into 8-12 pieces and place them in a baggie, cup or clipped together with a paper clip. Give each student a ‘packet’ of pieces and access the cellophane tape. Ask them to put the puzzle together, tape the pieces together, and turn it over. This will reveal the scripture. Recite the scripture together 2-3 times and then say, “Just like there was everything in this packet to complete the puzzle, so God gives us everything we need for life and godliness. (If you have no tape, write the verse over the picture and then recite the verse once the picture puzzle is completed.)
